This week we look into the main storyline of the book of Esther. Haman plots the total annihilation of the Jews. Mordecai asks Esther to plead with the king on behalf of the Jews. When Esther hesitates, Mordecai responds, “Who knows, perhaps you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”
There is uncertainty in knowing what is to be done. There is no miraculous event, prophetic speaking or angelic announcement to let them know what to do. We too face this kind of uncertainty as we follow God, and often don’t know with certainty how exactly he is leading us. All they had was “Perhaps!” And that’s often all we have. Yet it is in that “Perhaps” that Esther and Mordecai are challenged to act on faith without full confidence that they know the will of God.
